Strike on 24th Nov

The management of Athy College have received notice of a planned one-day strike on Tuesday 24 November as part of nation-wide industrial action. Because of this action teachers will not be available for classes and it would be unwise to send any student to school on that day. Thanking you for your cooperation

VEC Elections

Mr Gerard McDonagh form Athy Community College has been elected to Co. Kildare VEC as the Male Parents representative for the county. Congratulations to Mr Mc Donagh and our thanks to all parents who supported him.

Just a reminder to parents of first, second and C7 students that the sports programme begins on Mon, Sept 14th. On Sept 7th classes for the above students end at 1pm. Breds Sunderland

Ploughing Championship Closure

During the Ploughing Championship the college will be closed on the first day, Tue Sept 22nd.
The second day, Wed 23rd will be a Staff Development day and students will have the day off.
Normal classes will resume on Thur 24th.

Planning New Subject Choices

All parents are invited to give their suggestions about subject choices and new subjects they would like to see included in the curriculum when we move to the new school. Just contact Breda Sunderland at bsunderland@athycollege.ie

School Closures

Classes will end a 3.40pm on Wednesday next, April 1st to allow for a staff meeting. Students will begin their holidays on Thursday evening at 4pm. Staff on training course on Friday.

King Lear

Class d10 are going to King Lear tomorrow (wed 18th). Leaving at 9am and returning around 5.30.

Classes Finish Early

All classes will finish at 3.30pm on Thursday next, to allow for a Key Skills Meeting for all teachers.
If you are unable to collect your son/daughter at that time please let Mrs Sunderland know so that she can organise supervision.

Mid Term Break

College is closed for mid term and will re-open on Mon 23rd

Mock Exams

Mock Exams take place this week for many exam classes and may mean that for them lunch time will be from 12.30 to 1.30 on some days to allow for 2 1/2 hour exams.

Academic Awards Ceremony Postponed

Tonight's Academic Awards ceremony has been cancelled due to adverse weather forecast. It has been re-scheduled for March 5th

Wed 4th School Open

At time of issuing this school WILL be open tomorrow. I don't know situation re buses yet but all teachers are requested to report for work.

Snow Day

Classes finished at 11 am today as busses were unable to travel in snow. Students/parents are advised to listen to local radio in the morning for further update for tomorrow

Parent Teacher Meeting

Classes will finish for students on this Thursday 29th at 1pm. Staff meetings are being held in the afternoon until the Parent Teacher meeting at 4.30pm

Free Class in Skin Care and Make up for parents on Mon 19th Jan in Athy Community College 7.30 - 9.30pm

Guard of Honour Fri 15th Jan

Students will tomorrow be involved in a Guard of Honour outside the school as the funerals of Michael Curtis and JJ Leonard pass before 11am arrival at St. Michael's Parish Church (RC). Parents are asked to ensure that full uniforms are worn by all.
Two of JJ Leonard's brothers are students in the school.
